Service Description

Yin Yoga is an invitation to slow down, soften, and come home to yourself. In a world that often asks us to keep moving, achieving, and holding everything together, Yin offers a different kind of practice — one rooted in stillness, patience, and deep listening. Unlike more dynamic styles of yoga that focus on muscular engagement and movement, Yin Yoga works with the body’s deeper connective tissues. Through longer-held, supported postures, the muscles are encouraged to soften so that gentle, sustained stress can be applied to the fascia, ligaments, tendons, and joints. Over time, this can support hydration of the tissues, greater mobility, improved circulation, and the release of accumulated tension. The essence of Yin Yoga is stillness. As the body settles, the nervous system is supported to shift into the parasympathetic “rest and digest” response. Rather than striving, pushing, or trying to achieve a perfect shape, this practice encourages surrender, acceptance, patience, and presence. Props are used throughout the class to support comfort, ease, and deeper release. Classes may also include therapeutic balls for myofascial release, helping to soften restrictions within the fascia — the connective tissue network that surrounds and supports the muscles, bones, and organs. Some classes may also weave in the meridian system, tapping, self-massage, and acupressure-inspired techniques to support energetic balance and overall wellbeing. Both Ally and Joanne will be offering Yin Yoga classes, with weekly themes, contemplations, and philosophical threads remaining aligned with the broader teachings and intentions shared across the Shala. Ally has recently completed studies in Chinese Medicine, Meridian Yin and Hip Anatomy with Jo Phee, creator of MyoYin, Meridian Nidra, and AcuYin. Joanne has completed Yin Yoga training with WOKE and further studies in myofascial release and its application to yoga through Yogi Flight School. A little more about Joanne ~ Whether guiding a grounding Yin class, weaving meditation with movement, or holding space for deep rest and release, Joanne creates an inclusive, calm environment where students can reconnect to themselves and feel at home in their bodies. Come as you are, let your body soften, support energetic balance, pause and reconnect.
